Boca Juniors have booked their place in the big one. The Argentine side beat Vasco da Gama 3-1 at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro to become the first finalists of the 2026 Copa Sudamericana. The final is a single match, played on Saturday 21 November in Barranquilla, Colombia. Here's how Boca got there, when and where the final is played, and what to know if you want to be in the stadium.
Boca Juniors, first finalists of the 2026 Sudamericana
In the second leg of the semi-final, played on 20 October, Boca silenced the Maracanã with a commanding win. Lautaro Di Lollo opened the scoring with a header after four minutes, Miguel Merentiel doubled the lead, and late on Leandro Paredes sealed the 3-1 with a long-range strike. That result sent Vasco da Gama out and secured Boca's spot in the tournament decider.
It's another shot at a continental title for the club from La Ribera, in what is the 25th edition of the Copa Sudamericana — one that will be decided on Colombian soil.
When and where the final is played
The 2026 Copa Sudamericana final takes place on Saturday 21 November 2026 at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla, Colombia. It's a single match: 90 minutes — and whatever it takes — to crown the champion.
The Metropolitano is one of the largest stadiums in Colombia, holding more than 46,000 spectators, and is the usual home of the Colombian national team. It will be the first time Barranquilla hosts a Copa Sudamericana final, adding to the buzz for the city and for travelling fans.
Boca's opponent in the final
The other finalist is still to be decided. The second semi-final is between Atlético Mineiro and Montevideo City Torque: the Brazilian side go in with the advantage after winning the first leg, and the return fixture sets Boca's opponent. This article is updated as soon as the second finalist is confirmed.
Barranquilla, host city: what to know
Barranquilla sits on Colombia's Caribbean coast and is warm all year round: November typically means high temperatures and humidity, so pack light and stay hydrated. The city has an international airport (Ernesto Cortissoz) with connections to the region's main hubs, making it easy for fans to arrive from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and across the continent.
If you're travelling for the final, book flights and accommodation early: a continental final draws big crowds and demand climbs as the date nears. To enter the stadium, keep your ID handy and arrive early for access checks.
